My Frontier

I told myself I needed my friends’ beach vacation. And you know, I actually did, but not in the way I thought. I needed it to realize this is my frontier- home. This is my domain.

All of this is:

My Frontier

These gorgeous Boybarians of mine:

My beautiful, dear sisters. (They won’t let me get too many photos of them.)

My awesome parents, I am blessed to have. (No photo of them, either.)

All of that is mine. And I am so, so very grateful. Even though it’s not a beach vacation, it’s my life. I love it. No beach vacation needed.

Housewife Apron Tutorial – There was a longer version of this on the Sense & Sensibility movie (or was that Mansfield Park?) that I really liked. I’l going to try and sew a similar apron to this very soon. I think I might call it my Accidental Country Gal apron.

Ruffled Apron Tutorial – These are too cute! And it does look cute with jeans, but there is nothing like an apron over a tiered blue jean skirt.

Fabric Flower Tutorial – These babes would look super cute in your hair, on a little girl’s or a baby’s headband (What about a bunch of little flowers? Hollla photo prop!), on an apron, a purse, on a mason jar, or anything else!

An Ideal Life

Wild Flowers

My idea of the ideal life would be…

  • Planning and making homemade snacks for my family each week.
  • Doing more photo shoots. (Psst… Wanna schedule a session? Email me for my pricing and we can work something out!)
  • Read the books I would like to read.
  • Carry out more of my “big ideas” that I have.
  • Practice hospitality by opening our home to others more often.
  • Start being more productive with my time.
  • Put “early to bed, early to rise” into practice.

That’s not to say I’ve never done these things before, but like a lot of others I believe, I can’t keep doing them consistently. We can do this! We are able! We just tell ourselves we “can’t”. Let’s start telling ourselves we can.

What’s hold you back from starting your ideal life? Will you say “I can” with me?

P.S. I’d love to connect with you! Make sure to follow me on Twitter and subscribe to all my posts so you don’t miss anything good! Did you hear? I’m also on Facebook!

Freezing Fruit

Freezing is a great way to keep fruit! About once, maybe twice, a summer Strawberries will go down to about .99¢ a carton. (Price will vary from area to area. Just try to find the lowest price.) When they go down like that we buy a whole bunch, wash them, pull the leaves off, and freeze them. To prevent them from freezing in clumps, put them on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet. Then put them into freezer bags.

You can use this method with all sorts of berries and fruit! In our area, it is cheeper to do this than to buy them already frozen. I don’t know about you, but my family can eat some fruit! You can use this method whether you buy the fruit from a store, pick them yourself, or grow and pick yourself.

My family and I are also trying to eat a bit healthier. For sweeteners, we try our best to use Agave nectar and raw honey instead of white sugar. We do like us some ice cream, though. We have found a nice alternative for that- smoothies. I don’t mean thin smoothies, though. I mean thick like ice cream. The secret to getting a very thick, ice cream-like smoothie is not blending too much. Here’s the {not so} secret recipe.

Ice Cream Strawberry Smoothies

Ingredients:

about 2 – 2 1/4 cups of frozen solid strawberries

about 1 – 1 1/2 cups of plain yogurt

sweetener to taste

—–

Quickly chop the frozen strawberries in a blender. Add the yogurt and sweetener. Blend very quickly. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.

Recipe notes: If you aren’t going to serve this immediately, put the smoothie glasses in the freezer. You can leave them there as long as they don’t freeze solid. You can also add a Banana or two. The key to thickness is being very quick!

If you have any tips on keeping fruit or any favorite recipes, I’d love to hear about them in the comments! Enjoy~
